The N.C. State Bar Board of Legal Specialization announced North Carolina Court of Appeals Judge John M. Tyson has earned a five year re-certification as a Board Certified Specialist in Commercial Real Property Law.
Initial certification is based upon an extensive experience, written examination, peer review and continued substantial involvement in the specialty area and Continuing Legal Education (CLE) classes. The re-certification is Judge Tyson’s fourth since he earned Board-Certified Specialist designation in 2001. Tyson is the only judge in North Carolina to earn and maintain this distinction and is also one of only three attorneys from Cumberland County to earn the designation of Board Certified Specialist in this area.
Last month, Judge Tyson received confirmation his professional peers had voted him as a member of NC Business – Legal Elite and his Martindale- Hubbell AV-Preeminent peer-reviewed rating was awarded for the thirteenth year. AV-Preeminent is the highest national achievement rating in both Ethical Standards and Legal Ability awarded within the profession.
A native of Cumberland County, Judge Tyson also served as Chairman of the North Carolina Ethics Commission and currently serves as Vice Chair of the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission. He was re-elected statewide to serve a third eight-year term on the Court of Appeals in 2022 and is currently in his 36th year of teaching Real Property Planning at the Campbell University’s Norman Adrain Wiggins School of Law.
